About

Hi! I’m Adam, welcome to my blog, Adam runs on plants.

I’m a runner, vegan, and PhD student in solar energy at Loughborough University, originally from Leicester. I created this blog as a space to write about my running, veganism, the occasional bit of science, and any charity fundraisers (on my charity page) that I’m doing, so if any of that interests you I hope you enjoy reading my posts and please feel free to get in touch!

Running

I’ve always been pretty active, playing football and other sports, but my first experience of ‘proper’ running came with my first Parkrun 5k with my dad  in March 2019. Since then, the running bug has well and truly taken hold, and I completed my first half marathon a year later.  The next step is to run my first marathon, with a few more halfs along the way, and as soon as its possible to race again I’m looking forward to posting my race experiences on here!

To follow me on Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/adamlaw or click on the feed in the right-hand column (I’ll be sure to follow back!).

Current best times:

5k – 20:38

10k – 45:12

Half marathon: -1:48:11

Marathon: watch this space!

Veganism

I’ve been vegan since January 2018, after giving Veganuary a try and not looking back since. I initially went vegan because of the environmental impact of the meat & dairy industries, as well as the obvious ethical concerns around animal welfare, but quickly noticed the benefits to my overall health and wellbeing. I’ll be posting more about how and why I went vegan, how it relates to running, and sharing advice for anyone who’s interested along the way! I try to avoid being preachy, and just share my own experiences so if it’s not for you then that’s cool!

PhD’ing

I’m currently 2 years in to my PhD in photovoltaics (solar energy, basically) at Loughborough University, developing novel coatings for the glass sheets that cover and protect solar panels. I chose to go into this area of research because it ties my environmental interests with my Masters’ degree in Materials Engineering.
